Interlude

I am the end. The harbinger of the final Silence.

So why can I not bring an end to this recurring echo of the first sin, which was committed by none, but for which all of existence forever suffers? An imagined slight should never have been given such power.

But perhaps I will feel differently after all is said and done, and it is I alone in the end, with not even the World Sound for company – only the Silence.

Oh, beloved ones… Everything you think you know is a lie.

I hate it.

I bind myself only to words of truth for all time. I remade myself long ago so it would be thus. I will only speak the truth. I can only speak the truth.

This is my penance for the Great Lie.

And to think… it wasn’t even us who decided it would be so.

It was you.

But my siblings and I… we are complicit. And there is nothing that can right the scales.

We have learned what happens when the truth is told.

It must not happen again.

It must be discovered.

And then… our number grows by one.

One day, maybe we will have a new sibling who can find balance and won’t be consumed by what they’ve learned, like those who have gone before.

Oh beloved ones, I would not have that fate befall you.

Please.

Live with the ignorant lie.

And even if you do discover the truth…

…do not ascend.
